In a journalist career spanning nearly three decades, Lou has drunk booze to trial hangover cures, monitor speed reactions and test breathalyser machines. She’s interviewed Robocop, Michael Palin and Christian Bale, and has written about losing weight, putting weight on, and everything in between.
Storytelling around health and lifestyle has given her a passion to share people’s experiences to help others enjoy a life well lived.
She writes for The Telegraph health section, and her interest in this topic, although partly professional, is also personal, shaped by a family history of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, mental health issues and addiction.
At SlimrChat she helps shape community-led conversations that are warm, helpful and free from judgment, so people feel safe to share their stories. She believes weight loss medications are becoming one of the most significant health shifts of our time. And thinks that used responsibly, with the right education and ongoing support, they can help tackle serious illnesses including type 2 diabetes and heart disease, as well as obesity. Her focus is on using these treatments to improve not just how long people live, but how well they live, extending health span as well as lifespan. Her ultimate hope is that most people can come off the drugs and use everything they’ve learned to change the way they live - for the better.
Lastly, Lou is keen to point out that she’s not overly evangelical about health, and thinks a little bit of what you fancy does you good. So when she’s not writing or mentoring, you’ll still find her still drinking wine, but mostly for pleasure as opposed to journalistic research.
